GDR3 Coming Soon

So there is a lot of talk as to when the GDR3 update will be rolling out to our lovely Windows Phone devices in Australia. Below is a table of carrier data. You can see that many carriers have completed or a close to completing their testing and are waiting for Microsoft to flick the switch so we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer.

At this time Optus does not have a page that shows when they are planning to release updates. Their website is particularly unhelpful and if you are an Optus subscriber we would encourage you to provide feedback to the carrier that its not only Android users that want updates.

Optus getting ready!

We get a Tesltra leak, we get an Optus leak, everything seems to be happening today!

Optus has been doing some work on the back end of its website and WPDownUnder is reporting that the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 preorder pages are ready to go live! Don’t get too excited, no pricing yet 😦 But we do have a “will be delivered after 1st of March” message clearly viable on the site.

We have a date … maybe?

So the Nokia Lumia 800 is coming to all major carriers at throughout March, but Gizmodo is reporting today it might be very early if not before if you’re a Telstra customer. An anonymous source that works in a Telstra store sent Gizmodo some information regarding to the release of new 4G devices on their network. Interestingly it was noted that the Nokia Lumia 810 would be coming to the network on the 28th of this month. Is the 810 just a typo? Is the date incorrect? We will find out in 12 days I guess!

Lumia 710 heading to Optus and Virgin

Nokia Lumia 710

Yesterday it was announced that the Nokia Lumia 710 would be coming to Optus and Virgin in the coming weeks. The unlocked price of the Handset will be $379, so we can expect to see the handset in the $19/$29 cap ranges. The handset will also be available to purchase from a number of leading retail stores.

The Nokia lumia 710 is Nokia’s lower end Windows Phone handset which was announced alongside the Lumia 800. It has a 5MP camera, 8GB of storage and a 1MHz processor. The 710 stands out due to its physical buttons, with most other Windows Phones having capacitive buttons.

A Window through the Sea of Robots

The Samsung Omnia W is now available on the Telstra Next G Network. It is the first second generation Windows Phone to the Australian market, and a refreshing surpise on a network that has been focusing their attention on Android.

The handset features a 1.4GHz processor, 5MP camera with LED flash and a front facing camera with 8GB of storage all displayed on a Super AMOLED screen.

Samsung’s US version of the Omnia W has had the benefit of a marketing blitz in the US, unfortunately we are yet to see any advertising for this phone from Telstra or Microsoft. Maybe we will just have to wait for Nokia?

The Australian Amazing Everyday

Nokia has confirmed that the long awaited Lumia 800 is coming to the three major Australian carriers in March. Telstra, Optus and Vodafone will offer the handset, with Telstra and Vodafone offering a new 850Mhz version. Nokia has cofrimed an unlocked price of $699 AUD but we’re left to guess at what we might see at the carrier level. The device will be available in black and cyan with a rumor that the white may also be available.
