GDR3 Coming Soon

So there is a lot of talk as to when the GDR3 update will be rolling out to our lovely Windows Phone devices in Australia. Below is a table of carrier data. You can see that many carriers have completed or a close to completing their testing and are waiting for Microsoft to flick the switch so we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer.

At this time Optus does not have a page that shows when they are planning to release updates. Their website is particularly unhelpful and if you are an Optus subscriber we would encourage you to provide feedback to the carrier that its not only Android users that want updates.

Windows Phone Users Can Finally Grind!

Image from fester56 on Flickr

As we seem to get a lot of traffic on articles about Grindr here’s one that should make a particular group of our readers very happy! Meet’m is now available in the Windows Phone Store which gives you access to Grindr. Remember that Metrocrush did the same thing back in the Windows Phone 7 days but Grindr had it removed so buyers beware! In saying that if you’re desperate for the app on your windows phone and Scruff, Bender and GuySpy don’t do it for you; you can pick it up as a free download but an in app purchase is necessary to send messages.

Get it here.

Aussie Airline Apps

You’ve got your Nokia Lumia 1020 and all of its 41 megapixel goodness and you want to head off on a holiday! Which airlines that fly to Australia have an available Windows Phone app? Find out below.

Qantas

QFOur favourite Australian airline has had a few issues with its Windows Phone app since the launch of Windows Phone 8. It has since updated the app and you can once again check in for flights, pin flights to start and manage your Qantas Frequent Flyers.

Virgin Australia

VirginWith Virgin Australia’s app, which is very similar to the one on offer for Windows 8 you can book flights, manage your booking but on this app you can also view Virgin’s flight deals.

Air Asia

AAWith Air Asia’s app you can purchase tickets on the discount airline along with managing your bookings and checking in for flights. You can also use your phone as a boarding pass.

There is an absence of both Tiger and Jetstar from the Windows Phone Store. A number of other airlines including Malaysian Airlines, Thai Airways, United Airlines, China Airlines and British Airways also have apps for Windows Phone; the above airlines were chosen to feature as they fly many local routes. And if you are looking to find a good deal on a flight Skyscanner is always a good choice.

We’re Back In 2014

SHBFNY1314

Big things have happened in the world of Windows and Windows Phone since we’ve been offline! 2013 has seen the launch of some awesome handsets and apps as well as a general strengthening of the Windows Phone ecosystem. Moving into 2014 An Aussie With a Windows Phone will be back better than ever blogging about everything Windows Phone from a distinctively Australian perspective. An Aussie with a Windows Phone is really excited to be back online and we hope you can forgive us for our absence!

Grindr Still a No Show

GrindrSome of you may have remembered when Grindr blocked Metrocrush and had it removed from the marketplace. Well its going on 6 months since it was removed. Grindr tweeted within days of having Metrocrush removed that they were working on a Windows Phone version of the app.

Since then we are yet to hear a word from Grindr on their progress, furthermore any reference to any other versions of the app have been removed from their website and the link to the tweet has also been removed. Due to continued interest on a previous story we have reached out to Grindr for comment but they have not responded.

Personally, I don’t believe we’ll be seeing a version of Grindr for Windows Phone 7. Maybe we’ll see it on Windows Phone 8! Do you think we will see Grindr on Windows Phone any time soon?

Who offers what?

So its been six whole months since we last wrote about who offers what. A lot has changed, the Lumina’s have hit and we have a 4G Windows Phone on the market. So if theres anyone looking for a device at the moment here’s where you can find which devices are on each carrier.

Grindr blocks Metrocrush

Grindr this week has requested that Metrocrush, the third party grindr client, be removed from the marketplace. Those who paid for the app ($4.49) now are left with a message saying that Grindr has refused access to Metrocrush and that the app’s author is working on his options. I must say it seems strange for Grindr to block access to Windows Phone users when they dont have an official presence on the platform.
